Women
They are our mothers, sisters, daughters, and friends. The inspiring power of women weaves through our lives and carries us forward from generation to generation. In microfinance, women are strong poverty-fighters, working to create better lives for their families. They are more likely to take their microloans and invest the profits of their businesses to better their children's nutrition, health, and education.
In honor of women's courage and International Women's Day on March 8, 2009, Grameen Foundation celebrates by sharing weekly stories, until March 8, of inspiring women we've had the pleasure to meet. This week, we introduce you to Rahinatu of Ghana.
Rahinatu's Story
Rahinatu was determined to break the generational chain of poverty in her family. Not only is she an entrepreneur running a successful business, but she's a 19-year old student in her last year at Savelugu Senior Secondary School. Read how this teenager used her ingenuity and a $110 loan to help her family escape poverty.
