Woman In Pakistan —An Embodiment Of Love, Sacrifice And Misery
By Sahrish Gull, October 11, 2011
Pakistani women can be regarded as the incarnation of love, misery and sacrifice since there are lots of facts which appeals not only natives but foreigners as well and people feel sympathy, love and affection with them. They are loyal, loving, caring, sympathetic, helping and above all, an ideal state of mother, sister, daughter and wife. Adhering Islamic values and traditions of Pakistani culture, these women are always ready to sacrifice their precious things for the sake of others. Hence, they are blend of sacrifice and love but these are merely two aspects of Pakistani women, they are also regarded the personification of misery as well.
Pakistani Woman is always subjugated to man; even after passing the act of women rights and emancipation, still the situation of woman in some regions of this country is poor. Many cases of sexual exploitation, inhumane attitude, marriage with Quran, feudal atrocities and complications show male dominance is at its apex, especially in Baluchistan, NWFP and rural sides of Sindh and Punjab. Since Pakistani women possess the sacrificial nature, even after the infliction of such atrocities, the woman of Pakistan is manifestation of love and perform her duty as wife, as mother, as sister and as daughter.
Though a decade ago, this male-dominated region was having no specific act for women rights and none of the political leaders paid attention towards the pleading condition of women in Pakistan. Even in the era of Benazir Bhutto, male dominance was in its severe shape. However, five years back, President Parvaiz Musharaf get passed the woman right act and Pakistani woman got her actual position. This act enable woman to take steps against atrocities inflicted by males and now, a woman can ask for divorce in court, can file case against husband who beats her, can take action against sexual exploitation etc, and hence every act is praised since “tolerating atrocities is a crime in itself.” Approximately 52% women employment activities are conferred by this act of women rights after 2005.
However, it's a great service of Pervaiz Musharaf that a woman is cherishing, though not ideal status yet good one as compared to the past condition of woman in Pakistani culture. Now, the girls are studying in different colleges and universities, where they can have ideal education system, without fearing of male mates. Similarly, several females are doing permanent job as a professor in different universities, bankers, CSP officers, Politicians etc and of course, with high educational degrees. With the passage of time, Pakistani men have also become aware of the significance of education and today's woman is more intellectual, realistic and practical as compared to the past woman. Hence, Pakistani woman can be called a proportioned balance of emotionality and practicality.
Despite of promulgating the significance of education, the literacy rate in Pakistan is still considered the lowest one since the rural women of Pakistan are still ignorant and superstitious. Though the dropout rate of girls is far more as compared to boy, still the girls surpass boys in different educational levels. Hence, the literacy rate is expected to improve in women within few years since the change is occurring rapidly and 46 girls' colleges and more than 15 co-education colleges are the example of this literacy growth and strive of government in this regard.
Talking about property rights, Pakistani women have rights to own property but the culture of this country prohibits women from being owner of some property and the reason behind this fact is the male dominance since women in Pakistani society is headed by men and hence, propagated and financed by males as well. Most of the women belong to poor strata and do household work. Even today, women of lower strata are not allowed to do jobs and contribute in financing of family because of the male dominance. However, in agricultural field, the contribution of women in economic stability is approximately 73%.
With the passage of time, Pakistani women is facilitated with proper human rights but still, the violence against women can be observed at its prime throughout the country, especially in rural and backward regions of Pakistan. The crimes done against women include sexual, trafficking, abuse of dowry, acid throwing and domestic violence. Nevertheless, this condition is not that worsens as compared to past condition and now this country is on its way towards prosperity as far as ‘women rights' is concerned.
